Merrick Garland announces charges, but it's not enough...

Today (August 4, 2022) Merrick Garland announced federal charges against officers involved in the death of Breonna Taylor. I'm not going to expand on this because if you've been watching the news, you know the story. Instead, I'm going to talk about another case of wrongful death that has not seen justice, and in fact, quite the opposite has happened, and that is the case of Kyle Rittenhouse, that young man from Antioch, Illinois who traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin in August 2020, following the shooting of three men who were protesting the shooting of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man by a white police officer. Blake was left partially paralyzed after the officer shot him seven times in the back, outside an apartment complex in Kenosha on August 23, 2020. Rittenhouse, who was seventeen at the time shot three men during civil unrest and protests that followed the shooting of Jacob Blake. Rittenhouse was carrying an AR-15 style rifle, that he was not legally allowed to have, and shot three men, killing two and wounding a third. Rittenhouse killed Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, who was 26 at the time of the shooting. Many of us watched the trial, convinced that Rittenhouse murdered Rosenbaum and Huber, and would have murdered Grosskreutz had he been a better shot. During the trial, those of us who actually care about Justice were appalled by the actions of the Judge who presided over the trial, Bruce Schroeder, who seemed determined to see Rittenhouse found not guilty on all charges. We were also appalled at Rittenhouse's fake tears and disgusting act of having a panic attack while on the stand, and we who were paying close attention to the trial were certain that Rittenhouse would be found guilty on all charges because the prosecutors presentation of the facts, to us, appeared to be an open and shut case against Rittenhouse. But we were wrong. We weren't wrong about the prosecutor's case, they presented a strong case... we were wrong in our belief that the jury would see through Rittenhouse's fake breakdown, and find him guilty on all charges... they did not. After his acquittal, Rittenhouse made several media appearances, he attended a number of Republican and conservative events that were described as a public relations campaign and publicity tour. Tucker Carlson interviewed Rittenhouse and introduced him as a bright, decent, sincere, dutiful, and hardworking individual, and Carlson added that Rittenhouse was exactly the kind of person you would want many more of in the country. Ugh! So Rittenhouse was practically worshipped by many of the worst of the worst, including Carlson, Trump, Matt Gaetz, who offered him an internship, Madison Cawthorn, who also offered Rittenhouse an internship, and Majorie Taylor Greene who introduced a bill (H.R. 6070), that would have awarded Rittenhouse the Congressional Gold Medal. Again, ugh! Rittenhouse has demonstrated zero remorse for the killing of Rosenbaum and Huber, nor did he show any remorse for the shooting of Grosskreutz. Instead, since his acquittal on all charges, he's displayed an appalling arrogance... he's enjoyed his many appearances before right-wing organizations and on television, and recently expressed the belief that God was on his side all along. Disgusting. So with the new charges against the officers involved in the raid that killed Breonna Taylor, I am determined to do whatever I can to see that Rittenhouse faces similar civil rights charges from the Department of Justice. Some of you reading this already know that in September 2021, I wrote to Merrick Garland, urging him to bring charges against Donald Trump. I did not receive a response nor did I receive an acknowledgement of that letter, but I'm not going to let that stop me from writing to Garland once again, asking him why he has not brought civil rights charges against Rittenhouse. In his announcement today, Garland said, after stating that Breonna Taylor should be alive today, "The Justice Department is committed to defending and protecting the civil rights of every person in this country." So I will be penning another letter to Garland today, and in that letter, I will remind Garland of what he said today about protecting the civil rights of every person, and I'll be asking him why he doesn't seem to believe that Joseph Rosenbaum, Anthony Huber and Gaige Grosskreutz deserve the same Justice he announced for Breonna Taylor today. Would you join me in this effort by writing your own letter? Rittenhouse's walking free after murdering two young men and seriously wounding a third is a travesty, a miscarriage of justice and sends the wrong message... a message that it's okay for a seventeen-year-old, carrying an illegal rifle, and traveling across state lines to essentially slaughter two protestors and wounding a third, and he must be held to account for his actions, because if he is not, as I see it, it will be a black mark on the DOJ, that will remain as long as Rittenhouse is free. After the not guilty verdict, President Biden went on television to announce that "The jury system works, and we have to abide by it." I was appalled that the man who sits in the Oval Office would not decry the verdict, and because I let my feelings be known on Facebook, a Facebook friend unfriended me over that, but for me, that's her problem, not mine. If no one else will stand up and demand justice for those two men Rittenhouse murdered in cold blood, and his attempt to kill a third, then I will, and until I believe there is nothing more I can do to bring accountability to Rittenhouse, I will not stand down. So again. Will you join me in writing to Merrick Garland and demanding he give those three men the same consideration he today gave Breonna Taylor? How long will it take you to write a simple letter, or to call the DOJ? Not very long I suspect. I will also be working to create a petition to hold Rittenhouse accountable, and when that is done, I will post the details here, and on Facebook. What are your thoughts concerning Rittenhouse. I'd really like to hear from you, so leave your comments below. Remember, you must subscribe to leave comments, and you can do that at the bottom of the home page. It will cost you nothing but a few seconds of your time. Thank you for your indulgence, and I hope you'll join me on this important matter of justice and accountability. If the DOJ can prosecute some people who participated in the insurrection, but never actually entered the Capitol or physically harmed anyone, then certainly they can hold a double murderer to account for his crimes. 🙏
